BMW Motorrad has unveiled the 2014 version of the R 1200 GS Adventure motorcycle. This next generation tourer gets restyled bodywork and is sure to become popular among cross country tourers.
The 2014 R 1200 GS Adventure is powered by the same air/liquid cooled boxer 1170 engine featured on the R 1200 GS. This engine churns out 125bhp at 7750rpm and gets a new precision cooling system which uses water instead of oil as a cooling agent. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox.
The new R 1200 GS Adventure gets increased flywheel mass in the engine and additional vibration damper for smoother running and superior readability. The motorcycle already comes equipped with ABS, Automatic Stability Control (ASC), as well as the two riding modes ‘Rain’ and ‘Road’, which enable the ride to be adapted to most road conditions. One also gets a choice with the optional Ride Modes Pro feature, which is accompanied by the Enduro settings for ABS and ASC, useful for off-roading. The three extra riding modes – Dynamic, Enduro and Enduro Pro (which can be activated with a coding plug) make it possible to adjust the settings of both ASC and ABS and, if fitted, the semi-active suspension Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) to suit the specific requirements of off-road operation.
The 2014 R 1200 GS Adventure also gets cruise control, full LED headlight and auxiliary lights, a tyre pressure monitor and a chrome-plated exhaust. This touring machine is available in three colours – Olive Matte, Alpine White and Blue Metalic Matte. It also gets a 30-litre fuel tank unlike the 20-litres tank on the R 1200 GS. The German motorcycle maker hasn’t revealed the prices yet but we can surely say this should make it to the list of the best adventure motorcyles in the world.
