BMW Motorrad has finally unveiled its small capacity motorcycle – the G310R. This is the first bike from the German manufacturer's new range of small capacity motorcycles.
The G310R has been completely designed and developed by BMW in Germany. However, this will be the first motorcycle for the German manufacturer that will be manufactured in TVS’ Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu. When it comes to the G310R design, we can clearly see a romance between the R1200R and the S1000R. BMW says that even though the G310R is a new bike, they wanted some connection with its existing range. While the fascia is majorly inspired from the R1200R, the side profile has a S1000RR resemblance.
The BMW G310R is powered by a new 313cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with double overhead camshafts and fuel injection. This mill produces 34bhp at 9500rpm and has a peak torque of 28Nm at 7500rpm. It is mated to a six-speed gearbox. The German manufacturer has equipped the G310R with two-channel ABS as standard and upside-down forks at the front. The braking power on the bike is taken care by a 300mm single-disc with radially bolted four-piston caliper at the front and a 240mm two-piston caliper at the rear. The bike has a kerb weight of 158kgs, which is quite good for a bike in this segment. The bike rides on 110/70 R17 tyres at the front and 150/60 R17 at the rear.
We are expecting BMW to start selling the G310R in the Indian market starting next financial year. Just like the famous Bajaj-KTM alliance, TVS will also have its own version of the G310R. However, this will cater to a different segment at a much lower price bracket than the BMW G310R. Also, we can expect the fully-faired ‘G310S’ and the adventure ‘G310A’ to debut in the next few months. Or maybe, we might see concept versions of them at the 2015 EICMA.
