Despite having Europe's best-selling adventure-touring motorcycle, the R1200GS, in its line-up, BMW is going to add another contender in the popular segment. Meet the new BMW S1000F. While this is just a rendering created by French designer Nicolas Petit for Wunderlich, a German specialist manufacturer of accessories for BMW, the final production model is expected to be very close to this representation.
The S1000F has been spied testing before and the bodywork seems to be heavily influenced by the S1000RR and S1000R. Based on the S1000RR superbike, the S1000F will be targeted at touring enthusiasts. It will be powered by a detuned version of the same 999cc inline-four engine. It will have longer suspension travel and high set bars to give the motorcycle an upright riding position.
The BMW S1000F is expected to break cover at the INTERMOT international motorcycle show in Cologne, in October. BMW has a quite different philosophy, even when it comes to their cars. They have been pioneers of new niche segments in more than one case and the S1000F seems to be another byproduct of this strategy.
While it doesn’t have any direct competition in the litre-class, the S1000F will rival the other, more powerful, adventure-touring motorcycles like the Ducati Multistrada, Aprilia Caponord and the Triumph Tiger Explorer.
