The mother of all touring motorcycles, the 2017 Honda Goldwing has been launched in India. Priced at Rs 26.85 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), the new Goldwing has been introduced in the country just a month after its global debut.
The 2018 Goldwing is more radical and has been equipped with things that makes it quite a special motorcycle. It gets an all-new bodywork which has made it sleeker and sharper. The bike is lighter too, and one of the ways Honda has managed to do it by reducing the size of the fuel tank to 21 litres from the previous 25 litres. But the overall riding distance is the same, thanks to aerodynamic body.
The new Goldwing gets its power from a new 1833cc engine. This motor churns out 124bhp and 169Nm of peak torque. This motor comes with two transmission options, six-speed manual and DCT gearbox. The power is transferred to the rear wheel via a shaft drive. Honda has equipped this grand tourer with a ride-by-wire throttle. To take care of various riding needs, the Goldwing is loaded with four riding modes, tour, sport, economy and rain. The selected mode will adjust the traction control settings, braking system and also the suspension damping. For city riding, there’s also the idling stop system which shuts the engine after three seconds of idling. The rider needs to twist the throttle to get the motor back in action. The DCT gearbox offers a ‘walking mode’ that allows the bike to crawl forward at 1.6kmph and 1kmph in reverse. The bike continues to get the reverse gear.
The new Goldwing and the Goldwin Tour are available in red paint scheme. For now, the new Goldwing is available only in two cities, Delhi and Mumbai. The bookings for the bike has begun with the deliveries commencing next month.
