Bosch is working on a new ECU technology that could revolutionise the way information is displayed to the user. Bosch is working on a new motorcycle electric control unit (ECU) that can connect to the rider’s smartphone via Bluetooth.
The new engine management system will allow a connected smartphone to be used as a readout device, telling owners when to get their motorcycles serviced and offer riders the opportunity to read and save information on their fuel consumption, lean angle, speed, and distance travelled.
As per few reports, this new ECU from Bosch is five times smaller than the current ECU, which is based on car technology. Bosch says the smartphone connection can also be used to work as a remote immobiliser system, the fuel-injection system, and therefore the engine, can only be activated using the rider's own smartphone, providing additional protection against theft. The company claims that it wants to bring digital intelligence to the two-wheeler and with products like these, it will be able to.
While Bosch has already developed some mind blowing technologies like the Motorcycle Stability Control (MSC) that is found on the 1190 Adventure, its quest to become the leader in this space can easily be seen with this new ECU technology.
