- To be powered by the same engine as the Dominar 400
- Four colour options to be on offer
- Gets four riding modes
While we were patiently waiting for the official launch of the Bajaj Pulsar NS400 to take place, complete details of the motorcycle have been leaked. Amongst all aspects of the bike, the main highlight is its price tag which starts from Rs. 2 lakh. That puts it quite close to the smaller Suzuki Gixxer 250 and much cheaper than the Triumph Speed 400.
The Pulsar NS400 will be available in four colour options including Ebony Black, Glossy Racing Red, Metallic Pearl White, and Pewter Grey. These colours and new graphics adorn the bodywork which looks similar to the Pulsar NS200 but has a distinctive flavour of its own. The talking point of its design is the radical-looking headlamp which, with its thunder-like design, looks like the famous Hollywood movie character, Venom. Even the fuel tank shape, its extensions, and radiator cowl are slightly different from that of the Pulsar NS200.
On the feature front, the motorcycle is decently loaded. The list includes a Bluetooth-enabled, colour LCD display with a secondary dash, perhaps for turn-by-turn navigation. It also gets ride-by-wire and four ride modes – Road, Rain, Sport, and Off-road which alter the throttle response and the level of ABS intervention. What’s more, it also gets a USB charger, switchable traction control and adjustable levers. As for the hardware package, the bike is suspended by 43mm upside-down forks and a monoshock while the braking hardware comprises a 320mm disc at the front and a 230mm rotor at the rear.
The engine details and performance numbers, as we had expected, are identical to the Bajaj Dominar 400. The NS400 runs on the same 373cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 39.4bhp at 8,800rpm and 35Nm of peak torque at 6,5000rpm. It comes mated to a six-speed gearbox along with an assist and slipper clutch. However, we expect the NS400 to weigh less than the Dominar thereby facilitating it with a better power-to-weight ratio.
Looking at the price tag of the Bajaj Pulsar NS400 and what it brings to the table as a package, it comes across as an incredibly value-for-money proposition. However, whether it turns out to be an equally good motorcycle in terms of riding experience remains to be seen.
