BREAKING! Most affordable Triumph bike gets a launch date

- BajajTriumph bikes to be launched on 5 July

- Likely to feature a 400cc liquid-cooled motor

- Could be priced below Rs. 3 lakh (ex-showroom)

It’s official. Triumph Motorcycles India has announced that the first motorcycle to come out of the Bajaj-Triumph partnership will be launched on 5 July 2023. The invite shows the silhouette of a modern-retro motorcycle, which indicates that it will be the upcoming Triumph Street 400roadster. Whether or not it will be named the Street 400 is yet to be confirmed.

While the launch invite only mentions one motorcycle, we aren’t sure if the British bike maker will also launch the Triumph Street Scrambler 400 in India alongside the Street 400. That said, we hope Triumph launches both motorcycles simultaneously, as that will give more options to the buyers. What we do know is that both motorcycles will make their global unveil on 27 June in London, UK.

Suspension and Wheels

Coming to the motorcycles, the roadster will be a street-focused motorcycle with 17-inch wheels and road-going tyres. On the other hand, the Scrambler 400 will be the versatile offering of the two and have some off-road ability built into it. This is courtesy of its 19/17-inch wheels setup, and dual-purpose tyres. Meanwhile, suspension duties will be handled by USD forks up front, and a preload adjustable mono-shock at the back.

Engine Specifications

Both motorcycles will be powered by an all-new, 400cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that will be linked to a six-speed gearbox. While the official power figures aren’t available yet, we do know that this motor will be developed to offer low-end and mid-range torque delivery, a trait of a long-stroke engine.

Features

In terms of features, we can expect both the roadster and the Scrambler to feature LED lighting, a fully digital instrument cluster and dual-channel ABS. We can also expect it to come equipped with a ride-by-wire throttle and a slipper clutch. However, we aren’t sure if Triumph will offer smartphone connectivity or navigation features on the upcoming 400cc bikes.

Launch Date and Competition

As far as pricing is concerned, the upcoming Triumph bikes are likely to be priced under Rs. 3 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, the Triumph roadster will rival the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and the Honda H’ness CB350. On the other hand, the Scrambler 400 will compete against the Royal Enfield Scram 411 and the Yezdi Scrambler.
