- New YZF-R15 launch on September 21
- Will also get a R15M variant
- Gets upside-down forks
Yamaha India will launch their most awaited motorcycle of the year – the new YZF-R15 on September 21. The company would also bring in the R15M variant – a model inspired by R1M to India as well.
The Japanese manufacturer didn’t mention what this media invite is about. But from recent sightings of this new fully-faired bike, it is clear that the bike in question is the new YZF-R15. Plus, the invite also has ‘R DNA’.
From the leaked pictures, it is clear that the upcoming Yamaha looks so much different than the current generation. It looks inspired by the bigger YZF R7 with those sleek LED DRLs and an LED projector headlamp at the center. The fairing has also been redone to make it look bigger and more muscular. This new R15 will also get upside down forks up front, as opposed to telescopic units in the existing model. Also, thanks to the leaked homologation document, the new R15 will make lesser power than the standard R15 currently on sale. The M variant is good for 18.1bhp as against the base trim’s 18.3bhp. The reason for this drop in performance is not known yet.
The new YZF-R15 is likely to be priced a bit higher than the current model. So expect an ex-showroom price of around Rs 1.6 lakh.
