-390 Adventure R to get 885mm seat
-21-inch front and 18-inch rear, wire-spoke rims
-Adjustable suspension has 230mm travel
The new KTM 390 Adventure R is all set to be unveiled soon and in the meantime, the specifications of the bike have surfaced online. The new 390 Adventure R is going to be the top-spec motorcycle in the KTM 390 ADV lineup. And the specifications indicate a machine that is going to be pretty capable off-road.
The new 390 Adventure R will have a steel trellis frame that is suspended by an adjustable WP USD fork and monoshock. As per the leaked specifications, the suspension has 230mm of travel. This should help it absorb a variety of bumps and rough patches on the road as well as down a trail. Not to mention manage big jumps while riding off-road. The bike rides on a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel. These are wire-spoke rims shod with dual purpose, tube-type tyres, by the looks of it.
Now, with the big wheels and the long suspension travel, the seat height is 885mm. The tall seat height, however, may be a deterrent for short riders in India. Whether KTM introduces a low seat height in the future remains to be seen.
The KTM 390 Adventure R is also going to be loaded to the gills with features. There’s cornering ABS, traction control and an ‘H50 TFT display’. This instrument cluster should feature Bluetooth connectivity and navigation. We’ve also seen one of the KTM 390 Adventure test bikes in the past with cruise control. This feature is likely to be present in the new 390 Adventure R.
As for the design of the bike, there's a lot that we already know. Like the tall fairing with a large windscreen, LED lights, big fuel tank, the high-mount beak and the relatively slim tail section.
Since this is the KTM 390 Adventure R, it gets the KTM ‘R’ colours and graphics. The beak, handguards and frame are coloured orange while most of the body panels are coloured white. The top-half of the fuel tank is painted black and so are the rims. These colours contrast very well and given the size of the bike, the new KTM 390 Adventure R should command strong road presence.
The bike is expected to be unveiled shortly and KTM is likely to launch this variant of the new 390 Adventure in India as well. Expect it to sit at the top of the 390 ADV pyramid when it goes on sale.
