BS6 Royal Enfield Himalayan: Top 5 highlights

After the new BS6 Himalayan was spotted recently, Royal Enfield has now officially launched the motorcycle in India. In case you are planning to buy one anytime soon, we tell you five things that are new about the motorcycle.

BS6 engine

The Himalayan was already available with a fuel-injected powerplant and a few tweaks have now made it compliant with BS6 emission norms. Surprisingly, the company hasn’t disclosed the power figures of the bike. The BS4 Himalayan churns out 24.5bhp and 32Nm from its 411cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled motor. These figures are likely to have witnessed a minor drop, following the BS6-bound changes.

New paint schemes

Royal Enfield had showcased the Himalayan sporting multiple new paint schemes at the 2019 EICMA show in Milan. Now, these colour options have been introduced in India including Gravel Grey, Rock Red and a Lake Blue shade. These versions will be sold alongside the existing Snow White, Granite Black and Sleet Grey colour schemes.

Switchable ABS

RE has finally introduced the feature the riders have long been yearning for in the Himalayan – switchable ABS. With this feature, one can switch off the anti-lock braking system only for the rear tyre, allowing the rider to have some sliding fun while riding through trails.

Hazard switch

Keeping safety in mind, Royal Enfield has also introduced hazard switch in the new Himalayan. Engaging this function activates all the blinkers simultaneously for alerting other riders about a potential hazard around. Furthermore, it also gets a tweaked side stand for easier parking on undulated surfaces.

All the aforementioned updates on the Himalayan demand a premium of around Rs 6,000 over the BS4 model. While the standard model is priced at Rs 1.86 lakhs, the Sleet Grey and new dual tone paint schemes are available at Rs 1.89 lakhs and Rs 1.91 lakhs, respectively. (All prices are ex-showroom)
