Back in April, Royal Enfield had introduced electronic fuel injected (EFI), BS-IV compliant version of the Himalayan in the country. However, the bike never reached the dealers and this time around company sources have confirmed that it will arrive at the showroom in July 2017. Customer deliveries will, however, commence in August 2017.
The new BS-IV compliant Himalayan will not get cosmetic changes and mechanical upgrades will be limited to the new EFI system only. The bike will continue to be powered by a 411cc engine that generates 24bhp of power at 6500 rpm and 32Nm of peak torque at 4250rpm. The moderately powered engine comes mated to a five speed transmission.
Although the pricing aspect remains a mystery for now, we believe that the new BS-IV model with EFI system might make the bike pricier by around Rs 8,000. Moreover, GST implementation from 1 July 2017 attracts a higher cess of 31 per cent on the Royal Enfield Himalayan as it falls under the above-350cc bracket.
