Caterham exhibited prototypes of the Brutus 750 and two other electric two-wheelers – Classic E-bike and Carbon E-Bike at the EICMA in Milan. The trio are expected to enter production in the first half of 2014.
The first bike revealed is the Caterham Brutus 750. Powered by the traditional IC engine and loaded with beefy tyres, it is rightly termed as the SUV of motorcycles as it can ride on and off the road with ease. Within just four hours of the installation of the special kit designed for it, the motorcycle can be transformed into a snow-mobile as well.
Two electric bikes named Classic E-bike and Carbon E-bike were also displayed. Both of them have pedals and they are powered by the same 36V, 250W motor which apparently will assist the rider while pedaling. The battery-pack installed can keep the motorcycles running for 40 to 80 kms depending upon the rider’s usage.
Caterham, the UK-based car manufacturer, is known for producing specialist light-weight sports cars. This change of looking at the two-wheeler market now seems to proclaim their strategy of expanding their portfolio gradually. They recently launched the Caterham Moto Racing Team as well. For now, it would be interesting to see Caterham bring out the production versions of these motorcycles next year.
