-Dorna signs a three year contract with the UP Government
-2025, 2026, and 2027 races to be held at the BIC
-The first MotoGP race in India was held in 2023
The MotoGP commercial rights holder Dorna and Invest UP, the Uttar Pradesh Government’s international investments arm have signed a three year contract to hold the races in India. Following the cancellation of the 2024 BharatGP, due to various constraints, the announcement of the new three year contract will come as music to the ears of MotoGP fans in India.
The races will be held at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, UP, the same venue where the inaugural MotoGP race was held in 2023. Despite the last-minute confirmation of the event, following the track homologation, the first Bharat GP saw over 1,00,000 attendees. The sea of passionate Indian MotoGP fans was a sight to behold and the warm reception that the teams and riders received was exceptional.
The riders were also all praises for the Buddh International Circuit for its challenging yet fast and technical layout and the high speeds that the bikes get to, adding to the spectacle that is MotoGP.
Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna said that they are happy about the new agreement that’s been inked directly with the Government of Uttar Pradesh. India, after all, is a huge two-wheeler market with millions of motorcycles on our roads. Ducati, Yamaha, Honda, and Aprilia are manufacturers that are present in India and have MotoGP teams. There could not be a better platform to showcase to the Indian fans what they are capable of.
The 2025 Indian Grand Prix is expected to take place in the first half of the season and rumour is that India may host the opening round.
