Continental develops One-Channel ABS for the Asian market

Global Automotive supplier Continental has introduced a new one-channel ABS for smaller motorcycles and scooters. The products are the newest addition to German manufacturer’s portfolio of motorcycle systems currently in series production: Motorcycle Integral Brake Systems and Motorcycle Anti-Lock Brake Systems (2-Channel ABS).

The production launch of the one-channel ABS has been planned for the beginning of 2014 and has been specially developed for the Asian market where cost plays a very important role. With a box volume of significantly less than 300 cubic centimeters and weighing roughly 420 grams, the motorcycle ABS is very light and can be easily applied to suit the widest range of motorcycle and scooters. The ABS prevents the front wheel from locking up even during a panic brake by the driver and prevents a fall.

Currently there are only few motorcycles that are offered with ABS systems, but with growing safety concerns among the manufacturers and also the knowing the benefits among the riders, we can expect more two-wheelers to be offered in ABS variant in near future.

“In line with our Motto, ‘Safety for Everyone’, we want to make the one-channel ABS available to all road users and offer motorcyclists a significant safety gain,” said Murali Srinivasan, managing director, Continental Automotive Brake Systems India.
