It is happening! After months of rumours and speculations, the German automotive giant Daimler is buying a minority stake in MV Agusta. The official announcement is expected to take place on November 3.
A German daily has said that the company is looking to acquire a 25 per cent stake in the Italian motorcycle maker for around €30 million via its Mercedes-AMG performance division, with an option to raise its holding through further investments.
Just like Audi, which bought Ducati two years ago, Daimler also wants to have a bigger piece of the pie from the motorcycle market which has been growing rapidly. Also, this is not the first time the Mercedes-AMG division is being doing business in the world of motorcycles. In 2010, it entered into a joint venture with Ducati to create the Diavel AMG edition motorcycle.
MV Agusta needs lot of cash to do more business and expand its capacity and a giant like Daimler investing in them makes complete sense. It’s a win-win situation for both – MV Agusta gets money and Daimler extends its portfolio with the Italian manufacturer.
