Yamaha Motor India had launched their third scooter in India, the Alpha, at the 2014 Auto Expo. Yamaha said that they had developed it specifically for the Indian market. Now, the Japanese manufacturer has launched a new disc brake equipped version at Rs 52,556 (ex-showroom Delhi) and it also comes in two new colours.
It seems like Yamaha would also like to get on par with the competition by offering a disc brake variant. The scooter will be available in two colours – Radiant Cyan and Marvel Black. These new colours have been introduced along with the disc brake version to distinguish them from the normal drum brake version.
Commenting on the introduction of the new variant, Mr. Roy Kurian, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. said, “The scooter market has witnessed rapid growth in the last few years and Yamaha has been able to make steady inroad in this segment. Yamaha is looking at reaching a 10 per cent market share by the end of this year and the introduction of this latest variant of the Cygnus Alpha scooter is expected to further propel its growth in the segment. This latest offering with disc brake is aimed at families who want that additional safety feature.”
The Cygnus uses the same air-cooled four-stroke 113cc engine with the continuous variable transmission. The scooter makes 7.10bhp and 810Nm of torque. The scooter gets a front telescopic suspension and an upright type suspension at the rear similar to the standard version. It also comes with a storage space of 21litres.
