DSK Motowheels is going aggressive with their two-wheeler dream. After getting the Korean brand Hyosung to India few years ago, it will launch the legendary Benelli motorcycles in the country in March. Now, in order to take stay competitive in the growing motorcycle market, the company will setup a manufacturing plant in Maharashtra.
This plant will manufacture most of its products that is sold in India. The facility will have a production capacity of 1 lakh units by 2020 and will attract an investment of close to Rs 350 crore. The ground work of the plant has already started and will be ready in 18 months. However, the motorcycles will roll out only after two years. This new plant will manufacture the Hyosung and the Benelli motorcycles, making it quite affordable due to the less input costs. There is also a high possibility of the company exporting the Hyosung range from India. Benelli already has a manufacturing facility in China and it will be very unlikely that India will export it from here.
The premium motorcycle segment has grown drastically over the last few years. And this is why it has prompted many motorcycle makers to do business in India. With the Benelli brand, DSK Motowheels is expected to grow tremendously in the next few years.
"Plans are already in place for a manufacturing facility that will come up in Maharashtra. It will take 18 months to build the plant and the roll out of products is likely to happen in two years," said Shivapada Roy, chief operative officer, DSK Motowheels.
