Ducati and its factory WorldSBK riders, Chaz Davies and Marco Melandri globally unveiled the 1299 Panigale R Final Edition, earlier this month. Now on sale in India at Rs 59.18 lakh (ex-showroom), the 1299 Panigale R Final Edition is an ode to the iconic L-twin engine which will be phased out later this year. Here is a photo gallery to explain what makes the 1299 Panigale R Final Edition so special –
The 1299 Panigale R Final Edition gets a unique tricolore paint scheme featuring the company’s traditional colours – white, green and red.
The 1299 Panigale R Final Edition borrows the chassis and the cycle parts from Ducati’s WSBK homologation special – the Panigale R.
At the heart of the Final Edition is the legendary L-twin powertrain which holds the record for the highest number of victories in WSBK Championship history.
The current iteration of the L-twin is called 1299 Superquadro, and delivers 206bhp and 142Nm of torque through a six-speed transmission.
The engine has been revised with a lighter crankshaft, larger crank pin, tungsten balancing pads titanium conrods and the valves. It breathes out through a titanium Akrapovic exhaust system.
The electronics include a six-axis IMU, cornering ABS, wheelie control traction control, engine brake control and riding modes (Race, Sport and Wet).
The 1299 Panigale R Final Edition rides on top-of-the-shelf suspension bits from Ohlins - NIX30 front forks and a TTX36 rear mono shock.
With the 1299 Panigale being discontinued in India, the Final Edition is the only 1299 Panigale superbike that you can buy in India. You can book one for a token amount of Rs 10 lakhs.
