For those who feel that the regular Panigale is too common, Ducati recently launched the 1299 Supperleggera in the Indian market. Priced at Rs 1.12 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi), the 1299 Superleggera is an extreme superbike with no holds barred when comes to extracting performance and shaving off those milliseconds on the race track. Here are a few things which make the Ducati 1299 Superleggera worth its whopping price tag:
The 1299 Superleggera does not look radically different than a standard bike, though it does get a special livery inspired by the Desmosedici race bike.
The pursuit for lightness saw Ducati equip the 1299 Superleggera with a carbon fiber frame, subframe, swingarm, wheels, fairing and an aluminium tank.
With further weight reduction in the powertrain, the 1299 Superleggera tips the scales at a feathery 167kg, 23kg less than the standard 1299 Panigale.
Apart from the standard rider aids, the electronics package also gets a three-level launch control to offer optimal starts on a race track.
With 215bhp and 146Nm of torque, the 1285cc Superquadro engine in the 1299 Superleggera is the most powerful production twin Ducati has ever produced.
The 1299 Superleggera rides on fully-adjustable Ohlins suspension setup, while braking hardware has been supplied by Brembo.
The 1299 Superleggera's race kit includes an Akrapovic racing exhaust, front and rear stands, racing windscreen and mirror replacement plugs among other bits.
The extraordinary price tag and the limited production run of 500 units make the 1299 Superleggera a collector's item.
