- The system is developed in association with Ford and Audi
- It is aimed at enhancing road safety
- To be called C-V2X, it will alert riders and drivers about a potential danger
Ducati has demonstrated a new vehicle communication technology at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas. Developed in association with Audi and Ford, the system is called ConVeX (Connected Vehicle to Everything), or C-V2X in short, and its primary role is to inter-connect vehicles, road infrastructure and pedestrians for enhanced safety on streets. This is a major project which comes under Ducati’s Safety Road Map 2025 plan.
To demonstrate the C-V2X direct communication technology, Ducati used its Multistrada 1260 model while vehicles from Audi and Ford were also a part of it. The team created scenarios in which vehicles, equipped with the C-V2X system, are prone to crash on streets. For instance, they demonstrated the ConVeX’s Intersection Movement Assist (IMA) system which will prevent vehicles from colliding at a blind intersection. It can also alert the riders or drivers of a road construction work ahead by notifying them about the potential danger.
Ducati aims to develop motorcycles with advanced safety features under its Safety Road Map 2025 plan. In April 2018, we reported about the company working on a front and rear radar system for motorcycles which will notify riders of any incoming danger on the road. This system will be introduced in 2020.
Ducati, Audi and Ford revealed at CES that the trio is actively trying to roll out the C-V2X technology commercially for better road safety and automation.
