Ducati India has updated its product portfolio with the launch of the new DesertX in our market. The motorcycle is available in a single variant and it has been priced at Rs 17.91 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Here we explain the top five highlights of this new Triumph Tiger 900 Rally-rival.
Ducati DesertX Design
The styling cues are similar to the concept motorcycle that was showcased in 2019. Thus, the new Ducati DesertX packs elements such as a twin-pod headlight, a tall windscreen, a semi-fairing design, a 21-litre fuel tank, split-style seats, side-slung exhaust, bash plate, and tubeless-tyre compatible wire-spoke wheels. This Ducati gets more off-road-focussed hardware and it comes with a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel combination. These are shod in Pirelli-sourced Scorpion Rally STR tyres. The Indian market gets just one paint theme and the motorcycle features a white colour along with red graphics that are visible on the fairing and on the rear panels. Ducati will also offer several accessories for the new DesertX.
Ducati DesertX Features
The feature list is at par with the rivals and the new DesertX packs full-LED lighting and a Bluetooth-enabled five-inch TFT display as standard. The instrument cluster works with the Ducati Multimedia System and offers access to functions such as music, incoming/outgoing calls, and turn-by-turn navigation (optional). Meanwhile, the electronic rider aids comprise six riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban, Wet, Rally, and Enduro), four power modes (Full, High, Medium, and Low), cruise control, Bosch IMU, engine brake control, traction control, wheelie control, bidirectional quickshifter, and cornering ABS.
Ducati DesertX Engine
The mechanical specifications on the new DesertX include a 937cc, L-Twin, liquid-cooled engine that it shares with the new Monster and Multistrada V2. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, this motor is tuned to produce a maximum output of 110bhp at 9,250rpm and peak torque of 92Nm at 6,500rpm. Ducati claims that it has reworked the engine to make it 1.7kg lighter.
Ducati DesertX Hardware
The suspension tasks are handled by KYB-sourced 46mm fully-adjustable front forks with 230mm travel and KYB fully-adjustable rear monoshock with 220mm travel. Meanwhile, the anchoring setup includes twin 320mm discs with Brembo M50 monobloc radial callipers at the front and a single 265mm rotor with a Brembo double-piston floating calliper at the back. The motorcycle boasts a seat height of 875mm and tips the weighing scale at 202kg (dry).
