Ducati is soon going to launch the new Hypermotard 939 in India with a price tag of Rs 11.09 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). With deliveries expected to commence in September, dealers have already started accepting bookings for a token amount of Rs 2 lakh.
The Hypermotard 939 is the newest iteration in the Ducati’s family of supermoto motorcycles. It is high-riding, lightweight and powerful motorcycle with dirtbike-like styling cues which make it a proper hooligan machine. The Hypermotard 939’s lean profile coupled with the agile dynamics make it an ideal big bike for the urban environment. It carries over the underpinnings from its 821cc predecessor. Enclosed in the tubular trellis frame is a bored version of the older Testastretta L-twin engine, which now displaces 937cc and is Euro IV emission standards compliant. The engine delivers 112bhp and 98Nm of torque through a six-speed transmission. The Hypermotard 939 also gets a few electronic rider aids like three-level ABS, traction control, ride-by-wire throttle and selectable riding modes.
The Hypermotard 939 is available in two paint schemes - Ducati red and star white silk. With the on-road price touching Rs 14.11 lakh (Mumbai), the Hypermotard shares the market space with streetfighters like the Yamaha MT-09 and the Suzuki GSX-S1000. While the BMW F650 is a competitor closer in concept than the completely street-focused Japanese competition, BMW is yet to make an official foray in the Indian market.
