After re-entering the Indian market with majority of its bikes, Ducati India has said that it doesn’t plan to start completely-knocked-down (CKD) operations in India and will continue to import majority of its motorcycles from its facility in Thailand via completely-built-up (CBU) route.
India and Thailand share a free-trade agreement where the taxation for automobiles is either less or not there at all. Hence, setting up a facility doesn’t make sense in India for Ducati.
Currently, the company has dealerships in two cities- Mumbai and Gurgaon. The next showrooms will come up in Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad. The Italian manufacturer plans to have dealerships in Calcutta, Indore, Jaipur, Goa, Cochin and Chandigarh in the next couple of months. One of the major reasons of the company getting the entire line-up in India is due to the double-digit growth the premium motorcycle segment has seen in the recent years.
