Ducati’s previous venture in India went south as their partners, Precision Motors, had turned out to be ill-equipped to handle the company’s sales and operations. Now though, Ducati fans can rejoice as reports suggest that the Italian marque will mark its re-entry in Indian market in March this year, with two new dealerships in Gurgaon and Mumbai.
Ducati lost the customers’ faith the last time as they were let down by the poor sales and service network with the company eventually having to halt their operations in India. Determined to do things properly this time, Ducati has taken its own time to come up with a sturdy sales, distribution and service network. Owners of Ducati motorcycles can breathe a sigh of relief too as the company revealed that they will provide service support to existing customers too.
Ducati’s upcoming dealership in Gurgaon is located in Sector-34, adjacent to an Indian Motorcycles dealership, and will be the largest Ducati showroom in Asia. Initially, the company will import its products through the completely built unit (CBU) route, though completely knocked down (CKD) operations are still on cards. We expect Ducati to eventually bring in its entire line-up of naked motorcycles, sports cruisers and superbikes to the Indian market.
Speaking about the Indian market’s importance, Mr Cristiano Silei, VP - sales and marketing, Ducati said, “We consider India an extremely important part of Ducati’s future global strategy and will strengthen our presence in the market with premium services and a larger network that will be in line with our global standards. Our entry into the Indian market is therefore a first step in this direction.”
