The Ducati Monster 1200 R has been unveiled in Germany ahead of its debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. A performance-focussed version of the standard Monster 1200 S, the Monster 1200 R is being marketed as the most powerful and technologically sophisticated streetfighter in the history of Ducati.
The Ducati Monster 1200 R is powered by a 1200cc Testastretta V-Twin engine. With an output of 160bhp and of 131Nm of torque, the Monster 1200 R gets a 10 per cent bump in the power figure over its meeker sibling. It rides on grippy 17-inch Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tyres, which substantially aid the bike’s cornering ability. The Monster 1200 R comes equipped with new Ohlins suspensions and steering damper.
The new tailpiece, forged wheels and the extensive use of carbon fibre components has helped bring the total dry weight down to 180 kilograms. The electronic package includes ABS and an eight-level traction control system. The Monster 1200 R can be ridden in three modes - Sport, Touring and Urban, all of which get their individual power modes and traction control settings.
The Monster 1200 R is available in two paint schemes - Ducati red and thrilling black. We can expect the price and rest of the launch details to be revealed over the next few days.
