Ducati has teased the launch of the Monster SP- its newest offering in India that is scheduled to make its debut in the country on 2 May. So before the motorcycle makes its way to your nearest Ducati showroom, let us tell you everything you need to know about the motorcycle.
Same, same but different
The new Monster made headlines with the svelte design language it now incorporates. Gone is the brawny nature of the bike that was considered to be iconic. It not prefers agility and compactness over everything else. However, it does retain some of the signature Monster looks like the headlamp design which is now full-LED. But then, the SP version takes things two steps higher.
It features a red and black colour scheme to make things tasty. Then there is the petite flyscreen, also in red, and the seat, which is also done up in red. Ducati is offering the Monster SP with a seat cowl to make things special.
Added features
Besides the full-LED lighting for the headlamp, tail lamp and turn signals, the Ducati Monster SP also comes with a 4.3-inch TFT display that holds a lot of info including a lap times and air temperature gauge. You are also offered a traction control, wheelie control, power modes, and a quick-shifter. Adding to this, there are three ride modes, cornering ABS and heated grips too.
No tweaks to engine
Ducati has retained the 973cc, twin-cylinder motor from the standard version for the SP. And since there are no tweaks made to the motorcycle, it continues to churn out 111bhp and 93Nm. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox and sits in an aluminium frame as a stressed member. Now, the only real change is the addition of the Termignoni exhaust cans that add a wee bit of aesthetic and appeal.
Updated hardware
Unlike the standard version, Ducati has equipped the Monster SP with top-of-the-line Ohlins NIX 43mm shocks that are fully adjustable. Even the rear gets an Ohlins monoshock. Braking on the other hand is handled by twin 320mm discs upfront with Brembo Monobloc calipers and a single disc at the rear. With 17-inch wheels at both ends, the Ducati Monster SP rides on Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres.
Pricing
The inclusion of the extra equipment and features is sure to drive up the price on the Monster. While the standard version is priced at Rs 12.49 lakh, we can expect the SP version to cost a premium of over two lakh above that.
