Ducati has issued a recall for over 8,000 motorcycles manufactured between 2015 and 2017 in the US. The recall refers to a fault in the Brembo PR16 master cylinder which can lead to a brake failure.
The list of models includes the 1299 Panigale, Panigale R, Monster 1200, Multistrada 1200, XDiavel S and the Scrambler Café Racer. These motorcycles are equipped with the PR16 master cylinder and monobloc callipers. In faulty master cylinders, the piston can crack and eventually lead to a failure of the front brake. Under the recall, Brembo will replace the faulty plastic pistons with the ones made from aluminium. We expect a number of other motorcycle manufacturers sourcing brake setup from Brembo to join the fray and announce such recalls.
In the US, Ducati dealers have started contacting owners to replace the master cylinder free of cost. We are awaiting a word from Ducati India on whether the motorcycles sold in India are also affected by this issue.
