- 493 Multistrada 1260s recalled in total
- Recall issued due to side stand failure
- Affected bikes to get properly manufactured side stand replacement at free of cost
The American arm of Italian bike maker, Ducati North America has issued a recall of the 2018 year Multistrada 1260 model over a faulty side stand. Besides the standard Multistrada 1260, the 1260S and the Pikes Peak models have also been affected by the recall. A total of 493 bikes have been affected by the recall.
The motorcycles that have been manufactured between 20 September 2017 till 13 February 2018, have been reported to be affected by the recall. The concern was brought up by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) wherein the side stands the affected bikes may fail unexpectedly, causing the bike to fall over without any warning. Notably, the batch of side stands provided by the supplier had an improper weld joint between the tube and the forged top part of the assembly.
To address the recall, the company will be taking corrective action by contacting the owners of the affected bikes. The owners will be asked to bring their Multistrada 1260 to an authorized Ducati service centre where the affected part will be replaced with the correct one at free of cost. Notably, the replacement part has been available with Ducati since February 2018 that’s been manufactured without any flaws and is being used on the production line since then.
As far as the Indian market is concerned, Ducati India hasn’t issued any announcement for any Multistrada 1260s to be affected by the recall yet.
