A defect found on the Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro's Sachs semi-active rear shock absorber has compelled Ducati North America to recall these motorcycles since it might prove to be a serious safety hazard.
There's a possibility that the lower shock-end eyelet could crack due to heavy use of the motorcycle while off-roading. As a result, the eyeletcould get detached from the swingarm. With this, it is evident that the rear end of the motorcycle will collapse and might eventually cause an injury or further damage. To avoid this, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has directed Ducati to issue a recall to fix this possible defect.
According to reports, at least 568 units of the Multistrada 1200 Enduro will be recalled. This accounts for about 90 per cent of these motorcycles sold so far. Despite that, Ducati has reassured customers that their certified service technician can visually spot this defect and easily replace the part.
Ducati will inform affected Enduro owners through their dealerships about the recall. If the defect is spotted, the manufacturer will offer a replacement free of charge. Alternatively, the owners can also call their nearest dealership to check before the recall officially begins on May 22, 2017.
We are still awaiting more details from Ducati India regarding the same. If there are any models which come under this recall, we have been assured that the Indian counterpart will call up affected owners and get the issue fixed soon.
