With five recalls already reported in 2018 for Ducati’s flagship Supersport offering, the Panigale V4, the North American arm of the Italian bike maker has issued yet another recall this year. This time around the recall is pertaining to the ventilation system in the fuel tank. The recall has reportedly affected all variants of the flagship motorcycle comprising of the Panigale V4, Panigale V4 S, Speciale and R models.
As per the recall, the fuel pressure generated inside the fuel tank, under extreme conditions can result in a fuel spray upon opening the fuel filling cap which may potentially cause injury to the rider. This scenario has been reported to be more likely to happen in hot climate conditions. In order to avoid the same, Panigale V4 owners have been requested to open the fuel filling lid slowly and if an audible hiss is heard from the fuel cap, they are advised to wait till the same noise stops and only then open the cap.
According to the recall report issued by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), the motorcycles manufactured from 12 September, 2017 to 20 May, 2019, have been affected by the recall. A total of 1,880 bikes sold in North America during the mentioned period could be affected by the recall, says the company.
Notably, no injuries or case of a bike catching fire has been reported till now. Ducati will be addressing the issue by updated the venting system of the fuel filler cap. And, like all recalls, the required procedure will be carried out at no cost to the owners and will also be implemented in new production models. Besides that, the bike maker will also be issuing an updated owner’s manual page regarding the concern and wil also add a warning sticker on the bike’s fuel tank henceforth.
As far as the Panigale V4’s and their corresponding variants sold in India are concerned, the Indian arm of the Italian manufacturer has informed that the recall is not applicable to India.
