Ducati has released more information on its new product which is currently being called as ‘Project 1408’. However, this information is available on its micro-site, which unfortunately is invitation-based only.
Superleggera means lightweight in Italian and this bike is all about that. The Italian manufacturer has used a series of components that has helped them save a lot of weight. The monocoque frame has been constructed using carbon fibre with aluminium alloy inserts laminated into the carbon structure. This has resulted into a weight savings of 1.6kg as compared to the 1299 Panigale’s frame. The sub-frame, seat, tail section and even the fairing gets a lot of carbon-fibre treatment. Some more weight has been saved, thanks to the carbon-fibre wheels which sports an aluminium hub.
The fuel tank on this 1299 Panigale-based motorcycle misses out on the carbon-fibre but is made of aluminium for better durability. The suspension setup is being taken care of by fully adjustable 43mm Ohlins unit at the front and TTX36 shocks at the rear. Both sides get titanium springs to get the weight down.
Powering this super light Ducati is the same L-Twin liquid-cooled engine. But if reports are to be believe, then this bike will have a displacement of 1285cc that will churn out close to 210bhp. The exhaust system will come from Akrapovic.
“Our engineers have once again created a motorcycle that redefines the boundaries of what is possible, turning a dream into reality. The quintessence of Ducati. All aspects of this motorcycle are taken to the maximum expression of what is technically possible today. Unequalled technology and passion in a limited edition for true enthusiasts,” said Claudio Domenicali, CEO, Ducati.
Ducati will unveil this new Superleggera next week at EICMA 2016, Italy and we expect it to cost a lot. We’re quite excited to see this bike. We hope the company allots at least one bike for the Indian market.
