Earlier last year, Ducati gave a free hand to three popular design houses to build the first official custom Ducati Scrambler motorcycles. The results of this custom build-off were recently showcased at the Motor Bike Show 2015 in Verona, Italy where the three custom builders - Deus Ex Machina, Officine Mermaid and Mr Martini contended for the public’s attention.
The custom motorcycles are based on three different variants of the Scrambler – Full Throttle, Urban Enduro and Classic.
Along with custom bodywork, the Hondo Grattan dirt racer from Deus Ex Machine gets a large front rotor and a short silencer. It also gets a single-piece tail, number plate support and a headlight which is ‘inspired by speedway bikes’.
The Scratch custom motorcycle from Officine Mermaid takes a rough and basic approach with its brushed metal fenders and a rally-style headlamp. The fuel tank has been stripped of paint and the stock wheels have been ditched in favour of 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel. The bike sports only the bare essential elements and the rest of ‘unnecessary’ components have been discarded.
The Scrambler Café Racer by Mr. Martini, as the name suggests, gets an old-school design. The foot pegs and handlebar mounts have been relocated to give the motorcycle a different riding position while the black custom bodywork and high set exhaust system enhances its classic appeal.
