Ducati has launched two new versions of the Scrambler, the Desert Sled and the Cafe Racer, in Malaysia, priced at MYR 68,999 (Rs 10.36 lakhs). Both these bikes are expected to go on sale in India in August.
While the Desert Sled is a dual-sport bike targeted at off-road enthusiasts, the Café Racer caters to classic motorcycle enthusiasts. The Desert Sled gets minimalistic bodywork, 19-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels, Pirelli Scorpion Rally tyres and the upswept exhaust which give the bike a rugged character. The adjustable front forks offer 7.9 inches of suspension travel which should boost its off-roading capabilities. The Cafe Racer on the other hand gets a short flyscreen, clip-on handlebars, cafe racer seat, black coffee paint colour and gold wheels to nail the retro look. Both the Desert Sled and the Cafe Racer are powered by an 803cc air-cooled L-twin engine which delivers 74bhp and 68Nm of torque through a six-speed transmission.
The Scrambler has proven to be a successful platform for Ducati. The Desert Sled and Café Racer are an attempt by Ducati to provide a bike to match the personality of different kinds of riders, thereby catering to a wider audience. While Ducati has currently discontinued several models in India due to their non-compliance with BS-IV norms, the company is expected to launch updated versions of these in the next couple of months.
