Ducati has revealed that the despatch of the new Monster 821 to dealerships in the United Kingdom has commenced. The newest member of the iconic Monster family will be available in two versions and three paint schemes. The Monster 821 Dark variant, painted in a black livery, will be priced at GBP 8,795 (Rs 8.96 lakh) while the second variant available in red and star white silk liveries will retail at GBP 8,995 (Rs 9.17 lakh).
The styling of the Monster 821 has been heavily influenced by its elder sibling, the Monster 1200. The chassis, frame, fuel tank and the seat have been borrowed from the Monster 1200, though the double-sided swing arm and exhaust set the two apart. Like traditional Monster motorcycles, bodywork is minimal and the exposed trellis frame accentuates the motorcycle’s naked character.
The Monster 821 will be powered by a liquid-cooled 821cc 11-degree Testastretta engine, which will produce 110bhp and 89Nm of torque. The Monster 821 will get modern electronic aids like an eight-level traction control, three-level ABS and three-level ride-by-wire.
Since it was launched in 1993, Ducati had stuck with air-cooled engines for the Monster series, which changed with the 2014 Monster 1200. However, with Euro emission regulations getting stringent every passing day, bike manufacturers have no option but to shift to liquid-cooled engines to keep getting good performances out of their products.
The Ducati Monster will go up against the likes of Triumph Speed Triple, Yamaha MT-09 and the Kawasaki Z800.
