For the first time since its public debut at the 2016 World Ducati Week, the upcoming Ducati Supersport 939 has been spied testing for the first time at a private track in Italy.
The world found out about this motorcycle, when some good fellas decided to sneak in a camera inside a room where the Supersport 939 was on display. Ducati wanted to develop a bike that’s sporty and is more practical for road riding. It doesn’t have the high-end performance that we see in the Panigale range. In order to make this happen, Ducati has developed a 939cc engine that’s based on the Hypermotard that acts as a stressed member on the trellis frame. In terms of electronics, the Supersport 939 will be as good as the Panigale range. In fact, we might see the Ducati multimedia system that sports cornering ABS and anti-wheelies on this new Ducati. The instrument cluster will be new in terms of features and design. The Italian manufacturer has given this bike a new headlamp, which is inspired from the Panigale and also gets daytime running lamps (DRL). Exhaust and the full fairing is new too.
“The displacement is the same as the Hypermotard 939, but we have modified the engine and electronic tuning and even the attachment of the engine to the frame is different. With this frame, the engine is a stressed element. So it is 939 displacement, but not really the same engine, because 80 per cent of it is new," said Paolo Quattrino, product manager, Ducati to MCN.
“This bike is for customers who desire a sportsbike with versatility and with road-focused performance. It is for riders who don’t want a bike for track days, so this is a bike that is sporty and at the same time comfortable in terms of seating position. It is not in the Panigale family,” he added.
The global public debut is expected to happen either at Intermot or at EICMA. But the best part is that the Supersport 939 will be launched in India too, but next year.
