Ducati will continue to roll out L-twin engines for its superbikes till 2020. These engines are being used in the 959 Panigale and the 1299 Panigale Final Edition, which will remain in production for quite some time.
Speaking to a British media house, Claudio Domenicali, CEO, Ducati, said that the 1299 Panigale Final Edition is enjoying a good demand and will continue to stay in production. While the other 1299 variants weren't Euro-IV compliant, the Final Edition is, and will stay in production until the demand dies out. As for the middleweight plus bikes, it is expensive and time consuming to produce a V4 engine which can be a problem in this cut-throat market space. This means that the 959 Panigale will continue to be powered by the L-twin engine until regulations compel Ducati to move to a cleaner powertrain.
Both the 959 Panigale and the 1299 Panigale Final Edition are currently sold in India. We expect these to be joined by the V4 Panigale in the first half of next year.
