Ducati to focus more on India starting mid 2014

The Bologna-based motorcycle manufacturer, Ducati, will be investing more of its time into doing business in India. This news was confirmed to Overdrive at the ongoing 2013 EICMA event in Milan, Italy. The Italian brand is planning to change many things at the operational level. It will help them improve the ailing performance of the brand in the country.

Last year Audi bought Ducati for USD 1.12 billion making it a part of the Volkswagen group. VW have massive operations in India with the Audi, Skoda, Lamborghini, Bentley and Volkswagen brands. It makes more sense for Ducati to share its parent company’s India operations making it easier and cost effective for the customers. The company confirmed they might take this route but the official plans will be revealed by the middle of 2014.

Ducati does not have an official presence India as yet and sells its range of motorcycles through two of their dealers in Mumbai and Chandigarh. One dealership from Ahmedabad was closed recently and took Ducati and Precision Motors to court on cheating charges. We are hoping the company cleans its image properly before they start operating in the world’s largest motorcycle market after China.
