Ducati has confirmed that the Supersport and Supersport S are going to be unveiled at the 2016 INTERMOT motorcycle show in Germany, next month.
Internally called Project 1312, the Ducati Supersport was first shown to the public at the 2016 World Ducati Week in Misano, inside a closed room where cameras were prohitbited. Despite Ducati's best attempts at keeping shutterbugs away, a photo of the Supersport taken inside the room was leaked on th internet, leading to Ducati stopping the preview of the motorcycle.
The Ducati Supersport will feature a new fairing design enclosing a Monster 1200 trellis frame. It gets a taller seat, different exhaust design and more comfortable ergonomics than the Monster and the Panigale range. Powering the Supersport is a 937cc L-twin borrowed from the Hyperstrada family.Though it is fully-faired motorcycle like the Panigale 959, the Supersport is a sporty road bike that will be more of a mile muncher than a track-focussed machine.
Given the steady rise in demand for sports tourers in our country, we can expect the Ducati Supersport and Supersport S to go on sale a few months after they hit the production lines. The Supersport will rub shoulder against other litre-class sports touring motorcycles like the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 and the Suzuki GSX-S1000F. Expect more details to be revealed as we get closer to the launch date.
