It’s a new trend of developing more than two motorcycles using a single platform. BMW did it and now Erik Buell Racing is merely following it. After developing the 1190RX super sport motorcycle and then launching the 1190SX roadster, the American manufacturer is developing an adventure version based on the same platform and it is touted to be called the 1190AX.
Autoevolution managed to get this information out of Gary Pietruszewski, vice president, global sales, EBR, during an interview at the 2014 EICMA show in Milan. This is the same show where KTM showcased their new 1050 Adventure that is expected to make it to developing markets soon. For now, the only information we have is the confirmation of the adventure bike and it will not be launched in 2015, for sure. This means there is no chance of this new 1190AX making its way to the 2015 EICMA but we are keeping our fingers crossed as the company is backed by Hero MotoCorp, which has the habit of shocking the consumers every now and then.
Mechanically, we are expecting the 1190AX to get the same 1190cc V-Twin liquid cool heart that churns out 185bhp at 10,600rpm and a peak torque of 138Nm at 8,200. Most of the manufacturers usually retune the engine before fitting it into a different motorcycle type like BMW did with the S1000R but let’s not get into that because Erik Buell Racing gave the 1190SX the same power output like the 1190RX. But being an adventure version, we can expect slight changes to be made to the engine where engineers will play with the low-end torque figures.
Erik Buell Racing’s official website has the AX under upcoming models but there is no clue about the launch date or design details. But whenever the 1190AX comes, it will surely add some excitement to the segment.
