It’s only been a week since BMW unveiled its new small capacity motorcycle – the G310R. This bike has been designed and developed by BMW, but will be manufactured by TVS in India.
This was achievable through an alliance which was sealed by both the companies couple of years ago. Through this partnership, TVS will have its own version of the BMW bike and this makes things interesting. With the BMW G310R, we can easily guess that there will be a TVS version of it as well. We spoke to TVS management in EICMA 2015 and they asked us to wait till the first week of February. This is the same week where India will see the Auto Expo 2016. Coming back to the BMW G310R. It will be sold globally in four colour options and we managed to see three of them at EICMA. Of the three colours, the metallic blue looks very good on this small displacement BMW. The grey G310R that was displayed didn’t exactly catch our attention, maybe, the bad lighting at the BMW stall could be to blame. But we are sure, if you take it out in the sun, it will be a looker. The third one is the pearl white which BMW has been promoting heavily on digital and social media. Once launched in India, this colour could garner major sales for the Indian arm.
The G310R gets a new 313cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that produces 34bhp at 9500rpm and maximum torque of 28Nm at 7500rpm. This engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox with one-down, five-up gear pattern.
We are waiting excitedly to see the BMW G310R on the Indian roads. But talking about the price, we can expect this motorcycle to demand a premium and could be the most expensive bike in its segment.
Stay tuned to BikeWale as we get you more information on the new BMW G310R.
