Piaggio has unveiled the 2017 Aprilia Dorsoduro 900 at the 2016 EICMA Show in Italy. While the previous generation motorcycle was powered by a 750cc powertrain, the displacement has been now been bumped up to 896cc.
The Aprilia Dorsoduro 900 is a high-riding, lightweight and powerful motorcycle with supermotard styling cues. To achieve the additional displacement, Aprilia has increased the stroke of the V-twin engine from 56.4mm to 67.4mm. Despite the additional 146cc, the new 95bhp Dorsoduro 900 is only 3bhp more powerful than the older model. Torque output has gone up to 89Nm, an increase of 8Nm. The engine is Euro IV compliant and is mated to a six-speed transmission.
The Aprilia Dorsoduro 900 gains a new set of Kayaba front forks with preload and rebound adjustment, while the rear monoshock gets only preload adjustment. The electronics package includes a new ride-by-wire system, three-level traction control system and an ABS system.
As the Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 falls in the sub-800cc category, it would have been necessary to get the motorcycle homologated for the Indian market. The additional investment that goes into homologating the bike is one of the reasons that the company had refrained from launching it here. Now though with the increase in capacity, we can expect the Dorspduro 900 to go on sale in India by next year. It will compete with the Yamaha MT-09, Suzuki V-Strom and the upcoming Ducati Hypermotard 939.
