BMW’s eagerly awaited small-capacity adventure tourer - the G310 GS has been unveiled at the 2016 EICMA Show in Milan, Italy.
The BMW G310 GS’ styling draws inspiration from the litre-class R1200 GS. The raised suspension, narrow profile and the upright seating should offer it the versatility of being a decent commuter while being comfortable on long hauls. The fully digital instrument console has been borrowed from the G310 R. Though it is based on the G310 R, the G310 GS is 11 kilograms heavier than the streetfighter.
Propelling the G310 GS is a 313cc water-cooled single-cylinder engine. This engine delivers 33bhp and 28Nm of torque, and is mated to a six-speed gearbox. BMW claims a top speed of 143kmph for the G310 GS. It rides on 41mm inverted front forks and a preload adjustable rear monoshock. Touring-friendly accessories like hard case panniers and top case are being offered as optional extras. For now, BMW isn’t offering the G310 GS with spoked wheels which should limit its off-road capabilities.
We expect the BMW G310 GS to be launched in India in 2017. With KTM’s Duke 390-based adventure not expected before 2019, the G310 GS will only have the Royal Enfield Himalayan as its competition. Unless of course, Kawasaki and Suzuki decide to launch their newest adventure tourers - the Versys X-300 and the V-Strom 250.
