KTM has unveiled the new 390 Duke at the 2016 EICMA Show in Italy. Featuring a major design overhaul and technological updates, the new 390 Duke is expected to go on sale in India in early 2017.
The sharp new LED headlamps and the edgier bodywork have added aggression to the 390 Duke. With the grab rail now being moved under the rear seat, the tail section gets a clean and minimalistic look. As passenger comfort has always been the Achilles heel of the Duke range, KTM has attempted to improve in this area by redesigning the rider and passenger seats. The 390 Duke also gets adjustable hand levers and a TFT instrument console with a hands-free kit and audio player.
The KTM 390 Duke is built around a trellis frame with the 373cc single-cylinder engine as a stressed member. While the engine is similar to the one in the outgoing model, the new 390 Duke meets Euro IV regulations thanks to a three-way catalytic converter and a new exhaust pipe. The engine delivers 44bhp and 35Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed transmission with a slipper clutch.
The 390 Duke rides on 43 mm inverted front forks and rear monoshock, both supplied by KTM’s subsidiary - WP Suspension. The front 320mm disc brake is larger than the previous model. A switchable ABS is standard.
The 390 Duke is the highest-selling model in KTM’s line-up. However with the BMW G310 R coming into picture, KTM will now face a tough challenge. Both the motorcycles are expected to go on sale early next year at a similar price point.
