The Yamaha TMAX is one of the world's most loved scooters, and the 2017 MY update only makes it even more of an obvious choice for those seeking a premium scooter. You now can choose from the plain-vanilla TMAX, the SX or the DX. There's traction control on the latter two, as well as a tracker.
The TMAX's styling has been updated - it's still a TMAX, but it has smaller front end elements and LED headlamps. Euro 4 compliance is gained via a modified intake and exhaust system, and a ride-by-wire throttle. That YCC-T ride-by-wire throttle also allows the fitment of traction control, a first for a Yamaha scooter. Other new goodies are an aluminium chassis, tyres that are a kilogram lighter, a narrower rear wheel rim, a larger underseat storage compartment, a new TFT central unit for the dashboard. Among the new electronic goodies are keyless ignition and a connection to the D-Air airbag system in Dainese's riding suits.
The extra asking price for the SX buys you a racy paintjob and a D-Mode riding mode selector. Choose T for town and S for... speedy, we assume. The DX gets cruise control, the D-Modes, an electrically adjustable windscreen, heated grips and seat, and an adjustable rear shock. Both the SX and DX get something called 'My TMAX Connect', which connects the scooter to the owner through their smartphone and allows them to track it as well.
We don't expect the likes of the TMAX in the Indian market anytime soon, sadly, but it will go on sale in its traditional European markets in March 2017.
