Triumph has unveiled the new Tiger 1200 at the EICMA Show in Italy. Apart from dropping ‘Explorer’ from the moniker, Triumph has updated the flagship adventure touring motorcycle with a redesigned body and new features.
The Tiger 1200 features several revisions to the fairing, bodywork and decals to give it a modern feel. The fairing integrates LED headlamps with cornering function, while the tail section gets redesigned LED tail lamps. The five-inch colour TFT instrument console has been borrowed from the Street Triple RS. There are several weight saving measures, which make the new Tiger 1200 10 kilograms lighter than the outgoing model. The switchgear has been repositioned and is now backlit. It even gets keyless ignition.
At the heart of the Tiger 1200 is a 1200cc three-cylinder engine with an output of 140bhp. The six-speed transmission now gets a quickshifter, which allows clutchless upshifts and downshifts. The Tiger 1200 rides on WP suspension setup, while the brake setup has been sourced from Brembo. The electronics package has been updated with a new ‘Off Road Pro’ riding mode and cruise control.
The Tiger 1200 is available in two variants - XR and XC. While the former rides on alloy wheels and road-biased tyres, the spoke-wheeled XC is for those who like to stray off the beaten path every once in a while. We can expect the new Tiger 1200 XC to be launched in the Indian market in the first half of 2018.
