When Yamaha unveiled the T7 Concept at 2016 EICMA, adventure enthusiasts across the world jumped with joy. There was an expectation of the production version making its presence felt at the 2017 EICMA, but unfortunately it hasn’t.
The good news is that the T7 has a new name, the Tenere 700. Yamaha associates the Tenere brand with large touring and adventure motorcycles, so it was obvious that the upcoming middleweight T7 is likely to get the same association. In order to keep the excitement surrounding this bike going, the Japanese manufacturer has unveiled the Tenere 700 World Raid prototype. This prototype is the result of extensive testing which will eventually help the company develop the final production model.
Inspired from the famous Dakar rally, the World Raid edition gets a four-projector headlight assembly. It also uses carbon fibre side panels, front fender and one-piece rear tail. Yamaha has lowered the seat-height of this model to make it accessible for wide range of buyers. A lot of thought has gone towards developing the cluster of this Yamaha. Powering this adventure bike is a 689cc parallel-twin motor that has been tuned to churn out linear power delivery. Yamaha claims that this unit will provide strong performance both on and off road.
With the middle-weight adventure segment heating up with unveil of the KTM 790 Adventure, we’re expecting Yamaha to get the production model next year. And we hope Yamaha’s Indian arm brings this motorcycle to India as a completely-knocked-down (CKD) model.
