- EU slaps 25 per cent import duties on all American-made bikes
- Harley-Davidson, Indian Motorcycles affected the most
- India is developing a policy in similar lines
Earlier this week, we told you about government of India’s intention of raising import duties of American bikes like Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles. Now, European Union have gone ahead and raised the import duties of all American-made motorcycles.
This is being done by all countries as a retaliation to Trump administration’s to tax aluminium and steel. EU has introduced 25 per cent import tariff on all motorcycles above 500cc. This is bound to affect two brands the most, Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles. This new policy, however, doesn’t apply to electric vehicle manufacturers like Zero Motorcycles.
Harley-Davidson will be affected the most as its growth at home has been on the decline since the last two-three years. Most of its growth came from European markets and South East Asian countries like India. But with this new import taxation, the sales of this legendary manufacturer is bound to be affected in a major way.
