- Brands want to push Euro 5 to 2022
- Current deadline is 1st January 2021
- COVID-19 pandemic has affected the business
A few European two-wheeler makers want to delay the implementation of the Euro 5 emission norms which has been currently planned for 1 January 2021.
The COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t just stopped the sales of motorcycles and scooters across the world, it has also stopped the development of new products and technologies, and most of these products are being developed to meet the stringent Euro 5 norms. While the Euro 5 planning was done almost 10 years ago, the final technical specifications were done in 2013. That means all companies had seven years or more to adhere to the new policy.
Some of these manufacturers want to postpone Euro 5 until 2022. Most of the manufacturers still have a lot of Euro 4 bikes that need to be sold in the world market. The lockdowns across the world has affected the motorcycle business. There are motorcycles lying around in the factory and in dealerships. Post the lockdown, the brands will be able to exhaust these stocks, but there’s still no cure for COVID-19 and as a result the world doesn’t know when things will get back to normal.
