- Honda developing Xpulse 200 rival
- Will be powered by 200cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine
- Could be Honda’s first 200cc made-in-India bike
Just a few days ago, we told you about Honda’s plan of developing a new 200cc motorcycle platform. Now, we have received a picture of a 200cc off-road/adventure Honda motorcycle that is likely to take on the Hero XPulse 200.
From the picture, it is clear that this upcoming motorcycle from Honda is off-road in nature. The design sketch reveals a 21-inch front wheel and 18-inch rear wheel. There’s a long travel suspension doing the duty at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The motorcycle sits on a single downtube frame- something that is also seen on the Hero Xpulse 200.
In terms of engine, this upcoming Honda will be powered by a 200cc single-cylinder air-cooled fuel-injector motor. The power figures are likely to be as close to the Xpulse 200. This motor will be mated to a five-speed gearbox. Honda has taken the CRF design approach to this motorcycle. The styling of the headlamp unit as well as the fairing around the fuel tank resembles the CRF250L.
The Japanese maker is planning to take the simple and minimalistic approach with this bike to keep it cost effective. It doesn’t want to go with high specs, as it wants to be a part of volumes game in the segment. This motorcycle is likely to be launched by 2022, and could be the first motorcycle launch from its new 200cc platform.
