Fascino has eclipsed the Cygnus Alpha and the Ray to become Yamaha’s top-selling scooter. Fascino has achieved this feat despite being the most expensive scooter in the Japanese manufacturer’s line-up.
The Fascino seems to have caught the fancy of a wide range of audience, despite Yamaha mainly targeting the scooter at the youth. Yamaha has been marketing the Fascino as a lifestyle vehicle, which makes it a direct rival to the Vespa. However, Yamaha’s pricing strategy seems to have worked in its favour, as the Fascino is almost Rs 15,000 cheaper than the most affordable Vespa – the LX 125.
Besides pricing, a positive word of mouth about the Fascino’s efficiency has also helped Yamaha draw customers to its showrooms, say dealer sources. The Fascino’s 113cc Blue Core engine has been tuned to extract maximum fuel economy, with Yamaha claiming an efficiency of 66kmpl.
This success of Fascino shows the potential of premium scooters in the Indian market. It also opens the possibilities for other such premium scooters in the near future.
